Vegan Fried Fish
For the past week, I’ve made vegan fried fish almost every single day. It’s THAT good! Everyone loves it and I’m sure you will to.
Have it for dinner, lunch, or breakfast..like I did :)
Grocery List:
Canned banana blossoms in water - purchase on Amazon or at your local Asian Market
Fish fry mix - pre-seasoned
Chickpea flour
Plant-based milk
Oil - I used grapeseed oil
Kelp granules - purchase at a natural foods store or on amazon
Seaweed
Old Bay or Creole seasoning
Vegan mayo
Sweet relish
Lemon juice
Salt
Vegan Fish Ingredients:
- 2 cans of banana blossoms in water
- 1 cup of fish fry mix - pre-seasoned
- ½ cup of chickpea flour
- 1 tbsp of plant-based milk
- Oil for frying
- ½ tbsp kelp granules
- ¼ cup of crushed seaweed
- ½ tbsp Old Bay or creole seasoning
Dairy-free Tartar Sauce:
- ½ cup of vegan mayo
- 3 tbsps of sweet relish
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- ½ tsp salt
Vegan Fried Fish Instructions:
- Drain canned banana blossoms and add to a bowl. Rinse thoroughly and squeeze to remove excess water
- Add in kelp granules, crushed seaweed, 1 tbsp plant milk, and Old Bay seasoning. Mix well and set in a refrigerator to marinate for at least 30 minutes
- When ready to cook, add oil to a frying dish and turn to medium heat
- In a second bowl, use a whisk to combine the pre-seasoned fish fry mix and chickpea flour
- Add ¼ cup of the combined fish fry and chickpea mix to the marinated banana blossoms and mix well using your hands
- Grab a handful of the banana blossom mix and form into the shape of your choice (fish stick, nuggets or a filet). Add it to the bowl of fish fry and chickpea flour and press to coat on both sides. Before frying, gently shake off excess flour
- Add the vegan fish to the oil and fry for 2 minutes or until brown. The vegan fish will begin to float once ready to be removed
- Place the vegan fish on a cooling rack
- Serve with hot sauce or vegan tartar sauce
Dairy-free Tartar Sauce Instructions:
- Combine all ingredients using a spoon or fork and refrigerate until ready to use
