Sweet Chili Fried Cauliflower
Sweet Chili Fried Cauliflower? Don’t mind if I do!
I had this dish at a restaurant I visited recently and when I tell you it blew me away, I mean it. It was so freaking delicious, I made it my mission to recreate it at home.
This sweet chili fried cauliflower is the perfect appetizer, dinner, or even a snack.
Some of the key ingredients you’ll need for this are:
Half of a medium-sized head of cauliflower (you can save the other half to make my miso glazed cauliflower recipe)
All-purpose Flour
Corn Starch
Garlic Powder
Salt
Black Pepper
Cayenne Pepper
Plant milk (I used Oat Milk)
Frying Oil
Sweet Chili Sauce
Black Sesame Seeds
Dried or Fresh Chives
I would recommend using grape seed, olive oil (not extra virgin), or vegetable oil to fry these!
At this point, you can either stop right here and enjoy the crispy cauliflower without a sauce, or continue by adding the sweet chili sauce.
You should be able to find the sweet chili sauce at just about any grocery store. It is typically found in the Asian aisle.
Now look at that and tell me you aren’t in love!!! ahah
I hope you enjoy these fried cauliflower bites as much as I did. If you give them a try, don’t forget to leave a comment below. If you share on social media, tag me @sweetgreensvegan.
This recipes makes 3-4 servings, depending on how hungry you are :)
Sweet Chili Fried CauliflowerIngredients:
- 1/2 of a medium-sized cauliflower head (or cauliflower florets)
- 1 cup of All-purpose Flour
- 1/2 cup of Corn Starch
- 1 tbsp of Garlic Powder
- 1/2 tsp of Salt
- 1/2 tsp of Black Pepper
- 1/4 tsp of Cayenne Pepper
- ~2 cups of Plant milk
- 1 cup of Sweet Chili Sauce
- Black Sesame Seeds for garnishing
- Dried or Fresh Chives for garnish
- Frying Oil
Instructions:
- Break the head of cauliflower into small bite-sized pieces (see picture above for reference). Rinse and clean the cauliflower to remove any dirt
- In a large bowl, add in the flour, followed by the cornstarch, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Use a whisk or a fork to mix
- Next, add in the plant milk. Start with 1 1/2 cups, and then gradually add in the remaining half as needed. The mix should be slightly thinner than pancake batter
- Heat the frying oil in a large frying dish. Test the oil by adding a small piece of excess cauliflower. When it is ready, the small piece of cauliflower will begin to fry
- Shake the excess batter off of the cauliflower florets, one by one, and add them into the hot frying oil
- Fry the cauliflower pieces for 3-5 minutes or until golden brown (see picture above). Place the fried cauliflower on a cooling rack with a paper towel underneath
- Once all of the cauliflower is fried, add the pieces to a large mixing bowl, followed by the sweet chili sauce.
- Coat each piece of fried cauliflower with the sauce and place it on a serving dish. Garnish with black sesame seeds and chopped fresh or dried chives
- Lastly, pat yourself on the back because YOU DIDDDD THATTTT!
