Crispy Blackened Tofu
Ingredients:
- 1 package of 14oz extra firm tofu
- 6 tbsps of olive oil
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 1 tsp onion powder
Instructions:
How to Prep the Tofu
- Remove tofu from packaging and cut into cubes or strips. Add to a freezer bag or container and freeze overnight or until completely solid
- When ready to cook the tofu, either let it thaw out at room temperature or add it to a pot of boiling water, fully covered, for 15 minutes. Test if the tofu is thawed out by using a knife
- Once thawed out, use a kitchen towel to gently squeeze some of the excess water from the tofu. Add tofu to a bowl
Making the Blackened Tofu
- Combine all seasonings in a small bowl
- Drizzle 2 tbsps of oil over the tofu. Next, sprinkle in the seasonings and mix well to ensure each cube or strip is well seasoned
- Add 4 tbsps of oil to a non-stick skillet over medium heat
- Once the oil is hot (test it by adding a small piece of tofu), add the tofu cubes or strips to the skillet and cook on each side until browned
- Serve with your choice of sides
