Tips/Recommendations:

  • Do not place the baking dish on top of a baking sheet. It will slow down the baking process

  • Make adjustments to the gravy as you see fit. Spice it up by adding your own preferred seasonings

  • Bake this casserole for the full 40 minutes. You may need to bake it a bit longer than that depending on your oven but also test the readiness before serving. You do not want uncooked casserole dough!

  • Be sure to let the casserole cool down before serving. This will help it firm up a bit

  • Feel free to cook the meatless crumbles how you would prefer them. I like to make my crumbles have a sweet and spicy flavor to them

Ingredients:

  • 15 oz dairy-free biscuit dough (8 biscuits)
  • 1 1/3 cups of beefless crumbles
  • 4 tbsps butter
  • 1/2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 2 tsps red pepper flakes
  • 3 tbsps flour
  • 2 cups of plant-based milk
  • 3 tbsps dairy-free cream cheese
  • 1 cup of dairy-free cheddar cheese
  • 2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsps of garlic powder
  • 1/2 tbsp coconut aminos
  • 3-4 tsps of salt
  • 3 tbsps green onions (for topping)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven 400 degrees
  2. In a skillet over low-medium heat, cook beefless crumbles. Add maple syrup, red pepper flakes, 1 tsp of salt, 1 tbsp garlic powder, and 1 tsp black pepper and continue to cook for 3-5 minutes
  3. Remove crumbles from skillet and set aside
  4. In the same skillet, melt 2 tbsps butter and mix in flour with a whisk until fully combined
  5. Pour in the plant milk and dairy-free cream cheese, mixing well until the cream cheese has melted
  6. Now, add in the remaining butter, seasonings, and liquid aminos. Stir with a whisk. Taste and make seasoning adjustments as needed
  7. Rub butter along the bottom and sides of an 8x8 baking dish
  8. On a flat surface, cut the buscuit dough into small 1 inch pieces
  9. Add the biscuit dough to the baking dish (evenly across) followed by the beefless crumbles. Next, add the gravy mix and then top with dairy-free cheese, and green onions
  10. Bake for 40 - 50 minutes (after 40 minutes, check the readiness of the casserole by cutting a small piece. If the dough isn't fully cooked through, bake a bit longer)
  11. Let rest for 10 minutes (important step) and serve warm
